Turning Education Inside Out

A book for parents who can feel that school isn't working

Turning Education Inside Out

How to raise a child who thrives in the age of AI, by starting with who they already are.

School was designed in 1893 to fill children with knowledge. AI just made that the one thing they will never need. This book is about the four circles that remain, and how to grow them at home or in any school.

The idea in one minute

Most education runs outside-in. This book runs the other way.

Someone far away decides what every child should know, and the system works inward from there: curriculum, grades, homework, compliance. It produced a workforce for 1950. It cannot produce a human for 2040.

Inside-out education starts at the center of the child and grows outward through four circles. The sequence is the point. Children don't retain what they don't want to learn, so you begin with wanting.

  1. Intuition & Creativity

The native genius 98% of five-year-olds have and 2% of adults keep. We stop training it out of them.

  2. The Genius Zone

Where their passions, natural talents and values overlap. Real projects, real audiences, no busywork.

  3. Key Life Skills

Career, people, money and health. The operating system most of us had to install in our thirties.

  4. Community

An ecosystem of kids doing real things together, because genius grows in a forest, not in a pot.

What's in the book

Five parts, from the problem to your move.

Part I

The Problem

Why school looks the way it does (a committee in 1893), why so much teaching produces so little learning, and how AI quietly ended the old game.

Part II

The Model

The four circles in depth, including the chapter on coherence: why a regulated nervous system learns faster, and why our school is named for it.

Part III

The Proof

What happens when adults get out of the way. A 13-year-old's twenty-song musical in sixteen weeks. A $10,000 business in eight. The kids who read with a blindfold on. How you know it is working without a single grade.

Part IV

The Future

The Harmonic Age, and the ecosystem of world-changers our children can build.

Part V

Your Move

What to do now, whether you homeschool, unschool or send your child to a conventional school, plus straight answers to "but what about college, math, socialization, screens and cost."
