Course Curriculm

Week 1
Intro to Qi Gong and Karate

Understand the history and fundamentals of these ancient practices.

Learn basic Qi Gong movements and Karate stances, along with simple daily practices to create physical and mental strength, gracefulness, body control, and increased energy and vitality.

Week 2
Breathing and Balance

Discover the power of mindful breathing through Qi Gong.

Build balance and strength by learning your first karate kata - a series of controlled movements for learning blocks, punches and kicks.

Week 3
Energy Flow and Focus

Learn how Qi Gong movements create calm energy and mental clarity.

We'll continue to practice Karate katas to enhance focus, form, and body control.

Week 4
Movement and Form

We'll go deeper into our Qi Gong sequences and karate katas, using mindfulness and intention to deepen our movements.

Week 5
Strength and Resilience

We'll harness the strength we've built during our first 4 weeks to deepen our physical and mental capabilities by learning more challenging and vigorous Qi Gong and Karate movements.

Week 6
Deepened Mindfulness

Our bodies are not the only things gaining strength through our practices. Our minds are becoming stronger as well.

Week 6 will introduce meditation techniques that will allow us to take the power and presence of our Qi Gong and Karate practices to an even deeper level.

Week 7
Using Our Movements to Manifest Our Intentions

We will learn how to harness our improved strength, focus and mindfulness to turn our intentions into manifested reality.

Week 8
Qi Gong and Karate Showcase

In our final class of the series, each student will have the opportunity to showcase their Qi Gong and Karate skills by demonstrating their favorite Qi Gong movements and karate katas.

Students will report on the improvements they've noticed in themselves during the course, as well as their plan for continuing to build strength and mindfulness after the class is over.

Meet Your Instructors

Lee Holden

Lee Holden is a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, and a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with a BA in Psychology. Lee first discovered the healing power of Qi Gong and Tai Chi after experiencing injuries that nearly sidelined his varsity soccer career in college. Impressed at how these ancient practices healed his body, allowing him to return to playing while deepening his major in Psychology, he made their study a priority. He has translated works for Mantak Chia, a widely revered QiGong expert, and has trained and taught in numerous intercultural contexts in Asia.

Today, he is an internationally known instructor in meditation, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong, as well as a licensed acupuncturist, herbalist, and author (

7 Minutes of Magic, Penguin 2007). His popular library of Qi Gong DVDs have made him a regular fixture on American Public Television and over one hundred PBS stations throughout the U.S. and Canada. He holds annual teacher training programs and weekly classes at his Santa Cruz Chi Center in Californiawith on-line and in-person programs. His intention is to bring this healthful and effective practice into greater public awareness.

Lee’s expertise and down-to-earth manner have made him a popular speaker and workshop facilitator. He is a stress management consultant for top Silicon Valley corporations including Apple, 3Com, and Cisco, and has been the on-site wellness consultant for several Hollywood film productions.

Heddy Hill

Heddy Hill is a black belt in Karate, as well as a registered nurse and mother.

She began her journey into karate as a kid, and loved how much it helped her gain strength, confidence and mindfulness.

Heddy taught karate to kids and adults for over 10 years.

We recommend our courses for kids from 8-18 years old. The skills we are teaching apply to kids of any age. The main criteria is their attention span is sufficient and being able to work with an ipad or smartphone.

We'll provide you with journal pages that you can print-out and put into a binder.
